Addiction Medicine

Addiction Medicine is a sub-specialty of Internal Medicine, so it’s appeal to me was logical. It's a unique medical field because the result of effective treatment can be rapid--often times within days or weeks. The methods of treating persons with substance use disorders (also called dependence or addiction), especially for opiate (pain pills and heroin) use disorder had not changed much between 1965 and 2000. 

The development of a new type of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) revolutionized the treatment of opiate use disorder. I’m proud to be a physician certified to treat opiate use disorder with MAT at the For Your Health clinic. It is amazing to assist and be witness to patients break the vicious cycle of sobriety and relapse and begin to restore normalcy to their life, and their families’ lives, within days or weeks of initiating treatment.
